Learning to share

A poem

When I ask you to share 
I don’t just mean
Your Magnatiles and monster trucks 
(Although I mean those, too)

I want you to share
A smile with a stranger
Flowers with a date
And dinner with neighbors 

I want you to know the joy
Of sharing coffee with a friend 
Communion with a brother
And home with a family

Right now you are learning 
To share fruit snacks 
And Paw Patrol cars 
And dinosaur toys

But really I want you to learn 
How to share your life
Because what is life
If not a thing to be shared?
