You arrived as the azaleas bloomed and the cherry trees blossomed—each flower a reminder of resurrection. Paper-thin petals gathered on the ground like a red carpet rolled out in glorious welcome.
It was a sunny Easter Sunday when we left the hospital, my broken body cradling your perfect one. When your older brothers met you they showered you with kisses and stuffed animals and shouts of, “It’s our baby! Forever and ever!”
That day you and I sat in the backyard drenched in spring sunlight while your dad and brothers bounced on the trampoline. The simple joy of being together nearly overwhelmed me, momentarily overshadowing the postpartum pain and exhaustion.
Your name means “old friend” and I think that’s what you are. An old friend who made your way home to us.
Do you know how much you are wanted? How deeply you are loved? I will always remind you. Forever and ever.
